Choosing the Perfect Wine Refrigerator

There are many ways in which a wine refrigerator is different from your regular refrigerator, which is why a lot of people choose to purchase one.  One example of where these two refrigerators are different is that your food refrigerator is kept at well below 50 degrees, which is way too cold for storing wines properly.  Your home refrigerator is also opened and closed several times a day, thus altering the temperature many times, which is also bad for storing wine.

The Size of a Wine Refrigerator

When you first start looking for a wine refrigerator, you may wonder what size to purchase.  This is because there is a huge variety of sizes; from models that hold 6 bottles of wine and fit on your counter top, to models that hold 20 or more bottles of wine and allow for different temperatures in the different sections of the wine refrigerator for the various types of wines you are storing there.

Temperatures in a Wine Refrigerator

It is important to know what temperatures you should store and serve your wines at.  First of all, blush, rose and dry white wines should be stored in your wine refrigerator at around 55 degrees.  Second, champagne and sparkling wine should not be stored in the refrigerator at all.  Third, light red wines should be stored at 55 degrees.  Finally, full-bodied wines should be stored at temperatures below 55 degrees.

The Difference between a Wine Cellar and a Wine Refrigerator

Many people may wonder what the difference between a wine cellar and a wine refrigerator is. Basically, a wine cellar is a room in a dark part of your home that acts like a big refrigerator.  It has different “climate zones” for the different types of wine that you are storing and serving.  This is all quite appealing, yet very expensive, which is why many people purchase a wine refrigerator instead.

Where to Purchase a Wine Refrigerator

If you are ready to purchase a wine refrigerator, there are several places that you can purchase these units from.  The first place that you should look is online at a manufacturer’s web site or at a home improvement and appliance store.  Wherever you decide to look, make sure that you do some comparison shopping before making your purchase.  You do not want to be talked into purchasing a unit that you either cannot afford or do not need.  While all of this may sound like a challenging and time consuming task, it is not nearly as difficult as it sounds. And the benefits will be worth the time spent, when you end up with the best wine refrigerator for your storage needs.
